Stille Nacht - Holy night
|
|
The oldest christmas song in the world
And guess what: It's not german, it's not even polish - it's austrian. WOW
Two teachers sang this song in 1818 for the first time. It took place in a church named St.Nikolaus in Oberndorf near Salzburg.
The guy who wrote the poem was Joseph Mohr and the other with that beautiful, memorable melodie called himself Franz Xaver Gruber.
The songs fame came approximately twenty years later in Leipzig - again Leipzig. The organ builder Mauracher was playing there some songs from his native Tirol and the
poeple loved the certain song so much, that it won more and more friends in the german countrys. Once in the 1940s the austrian writer Hertha Pauli came to the USA, and
found out, that the kids there thought, that Silent night is a american song, so she wrote a book for them, to explaine the real story behind the song.
That it once came from Austria and was written by two teacher in 1818.
